We had a good first week back after the break.
In LA, we worked on editing, and re-building our stamina for silent reading. We got new books from the library. Today, we also practiced our ability to orally describe a drawing to our Grade 5/6 buddies. We drew a picture, and then tried to describe it so that our buddies could draw the same thing. Some of our buddies came pretty close to drawing the same thing that we did.
In math, we spent most of the week working on rounding to the nearest 10, 100, or (in some cases) 1000. Today, we reviewed multiplication and made multiplication charts. Some of us finished with time to play a battleship game with our multiplication tables.
In Social Studies, today we worked to find out 4-6 facts about Chief Crowfoot. We had an important conversation about how some sources use an older term for indigenous peoples, and that we no longer use this term because it has been replaced by more appropriate language. This is a part of our learning as a society.
In Science, we have spent the week looking at how a bicycle works. We hope that soon we can all get out on our bikes again. Speaking of bikes, if your child will be riding their bike to school, a few important things to remember are:
1. It is the law in Calgary that ALL children under the age of 18 must wear a properly fitting helmet when riding a bicycle.
2. Students are NOT permitted to ride their bikes on school property. They must dismount at the sidewalk and walk their bike to the bike rack.
3. Students require a lock to keep their bike safe on the bike rack. This is also the case for scooters.
Reminders:
Phys Ed. will be OUTSIDE every day 3 for the remainder of April, and all of the time beginning in May. This includes days that there is wind, light snow, or cooler temperatures. We will only be inside if it is raining hard, below freezing, or dangerous due to air quality. Please ensure that your child comes to school with appropriate outdoor clothing to help them remain comfortable for the duration of their Phys. Ed. class and 2 recess breaks.
