In LA we read the story "The Sharing Circle".  We completed a story map that included the characters, setting, problem, solution, and events in the story, as well as answering some specific questions based on the book.

In Science today we learned about wheels and gears.  We looked at how the wheels and gears on a bike work by completing some research online.  Hopefully we can test out our bikes over the break and see what we remember.

In math we used our Mathletics accounts to complete some review activities on concepts we have already learned about.

We did not have Social studies today because we had a full-school desk clean-out time this afternoon.

Reminders:

Crazy Hair Day on Friday March 26

In LA we have been working on reading comprehension skills.  This week we learned how to highlight a key word in a question to help us go back to look for the answer in a text.  We got to highlight pieces of text to help answer multiple choice and short answer questions.

In Math, we completed our pixel art and wrote what fraction of our picture each colour represents.  Grade 4s also wrote this as a decimal.

In Science we have been learning about what makes a strong structure.  Today we examined the houses of the three little pigs and thought about how we could make their houses better.

In Social Studies, we have been exploring Alberta's indigenous heritage.  Students have started a virtual field trip, and will continue with this tomorrow.

Reminders:

This is the last week for Reading Give it a Shot.  Please return your reading logs on Friday morning so I can update the totals one last time.

Crazy Hair Day is on Friday

Spring break begins next week.  We have no school March 29-April 5.  We return to classes on April 6.

 Happy St. Patrick's Day!

This week in LA we have been learning about the theme of a story.  Theme is harder to figure out than the characters, setting, plot, problem and solution.  Theme is the underlying message that a story is trying to pass on to the reader.  Students are finding this element of story challenging.  We will be continuing this work for the rest of the week.

In Math, we have gone back to talking about place value, especially since the Grade 4s have been introduced to decimals.  The language around hundreds vs. hundredths is a little confusing for some students.

In Science today we made paper airplanes and talked about force being needed to make them go.  We also talked about the best designs for them, and what real airplanes would be made out of.

In Social Studies we investigated the historic people and development of India.

Today in Science the Grade 3s presented their Diary of an Animal books to the class.  In their books they included information about the animal's life cycle, characteristics, habitat, nice, and adaptations.

In Math, we played a game that reinforced our use of mental math strategies for addition, as well as practicing with money values and decimals (for Grade 4).

In Social Studies, we investigated Peru's historical past, including the important cultures and people who helped form the country as it is today.

We played handball in Gym today.

Reminders:

No School on Friday

Today we completed our shadow puppets in science, and two groups presented their work.  The remaining groups will present tomorrow.

In Math, we played a matching game with fractions and decimals.

In Social Studies, we completed our posters about resources and jobs, and had a brief look at the other groups' posters.  Tomorrow we will be doing a self evaluation and reflection about what we learned.

In LA, we completed writing and editing our Pigs stories.

We did a silent mindfulness walk this afternoon.

Reminders

Please return reading logs tomorrow.

No school on Friday.

We have been working on our own events and solutions to the problem in "Pigs" by Robert Munsch.  Yesterday we came up with a plan for our stories, and today we began writing them.  we looked at examples of what a 2, 3, and 4 would look like for a paragraph before we started writing.

In math, we have been working on fractions and decimals.  Today we did some work about representing these numbers in 3 ways (numerals, pictures, words).  We took a while to learn how to do the work, so we will be continuing to work on it tomorrow.

We are still working on our Diary of a ___ and shadow puppet presentations for science. Ask your child what they are working on.

In social studies, we continued working on small groups to make our posters about resources and jobs in Alberta, Tunisia, Ukraine, and Peru.

Please remember to return Reading Give it a Shot reading logs.

In LA today we worked on our Robert Munsch book summaries and art.

In Math, grade 3s worked on fractions of a set, and grade 4s learned about decimals.

In Science, grade 4s worked on making shadow puppets for their final presentations about light and shadow.  Grade 3s worked on their diary of a ___ book covers.  They will be writing their own books about the habitat, adaptations, diet, niche, and features of an animal they chose.

In social studies, students worked in small groups, with masks on, to begin researching jobs and resources in a specific country.
