Spring Picture Day is coming Monday, May 31. Lifetouch donates $2 to the school for every photo taken on this day.

After Picture Day, you may choose to order pictures on mylifetouch.ca using your Portrait ID and Access Code which can be found on your Picture Day order form (this will come home about a week after picture day).

Pillars of Care virtual assembly tomorrow.

Tomorrow is Twin Day - Students are welcome to dress the same as another friend in our class.

Today we continued working on our stories in LA.

In Science, the Grade 3s tested their bridges.  Almost all of our bridges were able to support a load, but there were a couple of bridges that did not quite span the full 30 cm gap.

We examined an ancient piece of artwork from India today.  Ask your child what they noticed about it.

Please remember to bring back your pencil case with your glue, scissors, pencil crayons and pencils.

Spring Picture Day has been moved to May 31, 2021

Friday is "twin day".  Students are welcome to dress up the same as a friend in our classroom.

Our virtual Pillars of Care assembly will be on Friday morning.  Students will be given their ribbons at that time.

In LA today we worked on adding details to our writing by describing how things look.  We based our writing on a book called "Croc and Ally - Move Over"

In Math, we continued working on measurement by measuring the height of our classmates in cm.  Grade 4s then converted these heights to m.  We also practiced making graphs using the data we gathered.

In Science, Grade 3s played a game where they had to make a pasta noodle bridge.  We watched a video where a group of engineers tried to make a pasta bridge that could support a grown adult!  Grade 4s made gear trains, and worked on gear ratios.

In Social Studies, Grade 3s learned about some of the different ways children in India go to school - including on a boat, in a bus, and at night.  Grade 4s worked on comparing their life in 2021 to how a person in Alberta would have lived in the 1800s.

Our online journey has been an interesting one.  I appreciate so much how many students are coming to our morning meeting and turning their work in.  We are still missing some assignments from some of our friends though, so I ask that you take some time to look over your child's work today and see if they are caught up.

In Science - Grade 4s have been focused on learning about different types of gears and how gears work.  Today they are working on gear ratios before creating their own gear trains to bring back to school on Tuesday (we hope).  Grade 3s have been learning about how a bridge carries a load, including learning about different types of bridges.  Today they were given a task to build a bridge that spans a gap of at least 30 cm.  I ask that they have these bridges ready to bring to school to be tested on Tuesday May 25.

In Math - All students have been working on the concepts of perimeter and area, measurement in cm, and subtraction review.  Grade 4s have also been introduced to converting cm to mm.

In LA students have been practicing annotation skills in their Science readings.  They are also working on story writing this week.  Last week's story was about a true event without a problem. This week they are working on writing a story with a problem and solution.

We are hopeful that we will return to school on Tuesday May 25.

We have made it to the half way point of our first online week!

So far I have been really encouraged by the number of students I see attending our morning meetings and handing in their work.  I know that some tasks take longer to complete, which is why we alternate days between Science and Social Studies.

Tomorrow we will have some time to catch up, and a few move on tasks for those students who are caught up.

We have Gym tomorrow morning at 8:00am.  The schedule originally sent says 8:30, so please make the adjustment tomorrow for 8:00 instead if you wish to join in with Mr. Sadowsky.  Music will still be at 2:00pm.

As you are likely aware, beginning tomorrow all classes from K-12 will transition to online learning.

Our class will have one Google Meet tomorrow from 10:00-10:30am. As in the winter, I will post the link to the meet on our classroom stream at 10:00.  The purpose of this meet will be to ensure that all students can access the meet, navigate to the classroom, and to go over expectations and schedules for the period beginning on Monday.  Please ensure that your child is available and online for this first meet time.

As we were going to do Hats On for Mental Health on Friday, students are welcome to wear their hat during our meet.

Today we learned:

Grade 3 students completed their experiments testing the stability of a single pillar vs. 4 smaller pillars.

Grade 4 students completed construction and testing of their wheel and axle cars.

We had Mathletics time after finishing our work on perimeter and area.

We completed our Lorax art as well as our book/video comparisons.

Grade 3 students learned about culture in Tunisia, while Grade 4s learned about the Hudson's Bay Company and their history in the fur trade era.

May the 4th be with you!

In LA we continued working on our comic strips of our stories.  Through this task we have been learning about parts of speech, identifying key events in a story, representing a story in pictures, and working with dialogue.

In math today we learned about area and perimeter.  We learned that area is the amount of space a shape takes up, and that perimeter is the distance around the outside of the shape.

In Science, Grade 3s continued building their pillars to test which will support more weight, 1 big pillar or 4 small pillars.  Grade 4s worked on building a vehicle that uses a wheel and axle to move a load using less force than pulling it would.
