Today we worked on our basic facts recall in our morning math.

We wrote sentences using our spelling words.  Our sentences are being checked to make sure we have capital letters and periods in the right place, as well as not making mistakes in our spelling words.  Our spelling words this week all have the "bossy r" in them.

We are learning about the seven teachings this week.  Yesterday we learned about humility.  Today, we learned about wisdom.  We did a written reflection about a book that Mrs. M read to us.

In Social Studies, Grade 3s learned about the climate of Peru.  Grade 4s learned more of the animals and plants that live in the Rocky Mountain and Foothills regions of Alberta.

In Science, we learned about producers, consumers, and decomposers, and how decomposers play a huge role in breaking down natural waste.

In math, we continued our learning about multiplication.  Grade 3s are working on multiplication to 5x5.  Grade 4s are working on multiplication to 9x9.

We had gym with Mr. Sadowsky today.  Check out his blog to see what he is working on in the gym.

I look forward to speaking with you during our online conferences tonight.  Please use the meeting link that was emailed to you when you registered for your space.  We would like to thank all the parents who have registered, and appreciate your patience as we work out a new system.

Today we wrote a story using emojis!  It was a fun way to add elements to our writing using a picture instead of the word.  It helped us to be creative, and generate some ideas.

In Math, we continued working on connecting the words "groups of" to multiplication.  We drew groups, wrote the repeated addition and multiplication sentences.  Then we got to play an adding game with one partner.

We continued our research about geographic regions in Social Studies.  The Grade 4s are working on Alberta.  The Grade 3s are working on Peru.

No school tomorrow.

Beddington Heights is participating in the Mayor's Annual Food Drive this year!  Please bring in any nonperishable food items for the Calgary Food Bank!  Also, we are collecting monetary donations. This will be a great act of kindness and show a great deal of care for others during a trying time of year for those who are less fortunate.  The drive starts today and ends Dec 11th.  Thank you for your support on this!

THANK YOU for setting a Parent Teacher Conference meeting on Thurs. Nov. 19 or Fri. Nov. 20.  To adhere to COVID guidelines conferences will be hosted online;

Please use your myCBE account to check for day and time availability. During our meeting we will discuss your child's progress to date, goals, and strategies for improvement.

Today we learned...

In language arts, we learned about the "ing" sound in words.  We highlighted where we found this sound in a poem, and them wrote out our personal spelling lists.

In Math, we learned about repeated addition and arrays.  An array is a way of showing groups in a grid.  We are building to multiplication.

In Science, we completed our research about what is and is not biodegradable.

We had music today.

Today we worked on applying what we know about skip counting to solving word problems.  We found out that drawing a picture of what the problem is asking is a good way to make sure we understand.

In LA, we continued working on our own retell versions of "We Don't Eat Our Classmates"

We did a survey today that asked us about our feelings towards school.

We also kept working on goal setting.

Tomorrow is World Kindness Day.  We are going to do our best to be kind to everyone we interact with all day (even though we already do that so well).

November 9, 2020

This week is a short week due to the holiday on Wednesday.

We learned about the "cl" diagraph today.

We talked about Remembrance Day and started an art project about poppies today.  We will finish it tomorrow.

We are working on thinking about ourselves as learners, and setting goals for ourselves in Literacy, Math and Personal Development.

Our student teacher taught a writing lesson today.  She is working with us on story writing.  We read a story, and then examined what we find out at the beginning of a story.  We then worked on retelling the beginning of a familiar story in our own words.

Reminders:

No School in Wednesday

Picture Retakes are on Thursday

Online conferences will be next week on Thursday night or Friday morning.

We have a student teacher joining us in our classroom from now until December 4.  Her name is Mrs. McGregor.  Today, she read us a story and we told her something special about ourselves.

In LA, we are working with the ch diagraph this week.

We continued working on how we represent 2, 3, and 4 digit numbers today.

In Social Studies, we finished up our research about the Rocky Mountain Region of Alberta.

In Science, we learned about hazardous waste, and how we should dispose of it.  The students are bringing home a paper today to find materials with the hazard symbols on them.  I have asked the students to bring these papers back on Wednesday.  They should have an adult help them find these materials in order to ensure the students' safety.

We also did a waste sorting game.  The students really enjoyed it.  I promised them I would include the link to the game so they could show it to you at home:

Reminders:

Photo orders are due November 6.  Retakes will be done on November 12.

We will not be having a Remembrance Day assembly this year, but will be hosting a video assembly for the students on November 10.
